On April 24, 2017, OJSC Zelenodolsk Plant Named After M. Gorky laid down the tenth small-size missile ship of Project 21631. According to the press center of the shipyard, the ceremonial keel-laying of the ship named Grad was attended by Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
Dmitry Rogozin said that laying down of yet another serial missile ship which would join the Russian Navy and defend the coasts of the Russian Federation is a very important event in the framework of the federal arms programme.
Aleksei Pesoshin, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, said: “Today’s keel-laying of the tenth small-size missile ship shows that your ships are in demand and you perform the state tasks assigned to you shipyard with hornour”.
The shipyard has been building small-size missile ships of Project 21631 for the Russian Navy since 2010. That is a 'river-sea' class multipurpose corvette. Ships of Project 21631 are equipped with the latest radioelectronics and gun/missile/counter-terror/antiaircraft weapons. The corvette is intended for protection of the state’s economic zone.
The lead ship of project 21631, Grad Sviyazhsk, and the serial ships, Uglich, Veliky Ustyug, Zeleony Dol and Serpukhov, have joined the fleet of RF Navy. Four more ships of the series are under construction at the shipyard today – Vyshny Volochek, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Ingushetia and Gaivoron.
