Volga Shipping Company says it has opened the navigation season of 2017 on the Upper Volga river from April 25.
Volga-Don 5050 has left the gate No 13 of the Gorodets hydrosystem for Cherepovets to be loaded with metal scrap.
Navigation season of the Lower Volga and Don rivers opened in late March. The first vessels of Volga Shipping Company to start carrying cargo were vessels of Project RSD44.
More than 40 units of the company’s fleet are currently deployed for operation at inland water ways of Russia including vessels of Volgo-Don class, the Kapitan series (Project RSD44) and pusher tugs.
In April 2017, the company’s ships transport sulphur, grain and metal.
Volga Shipping Company JSC, one of the largest shipping companies in Russia, was founded in 1843. It performs cargo transportation along the rivers and lakes of the country. In 2016, the company transport 5.2 mln tons of cargos.
The company branches, including the Bor and the Volzhsky fleet maintenance bases, as well as shipyards - Borremflot JSC, Pamyat’ Parizhskoy Communy JSC and Voznesenye Fleet Repair and Operation Base JSC are the Volga Shipping ship repair areas.
The Company is a part of VBTH – shipping division of Universal Cargo Logistics Holding, international transportation group consolidating a number of Russian railway, stevedoring and logistic companies (the majority stakeholder of VBTH). The division comprises North Western Shipping Company, V.F.Tanker, a number of shipbuilding and cruise assets.
