The Royal Navy’s HMS Severn patrol vessel docked in Britannia Quay at ABP’s port of Cardiff on 24th April for a three day stopover, says ABP.
The main role of HMS Severn is to provide maritime security, including fishery protection, around the UK’s coastline on behalf of the Marine Management Organisation.
HMS Severn has visited the port of Cardiff several times in recent years. ABP South Wales has strong links with the Royal Navy and regularly provides berths for other vessels in the Royal Navy’s fleet across its five ports.
Plans are also progressing well for the construction of a brand new Royal Navy facility that is due to be built on the Cardiff port estate. This new building will encompass a training centre for the Royal Navy Reserve, Royal Marine Reserve, and the University Royal Navy Unit.
The project is being delivered by the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Wales who are working in partnership with the Royal Navy and Associated British Ports.
