On 27 April 2017, Vympel Shipyard (Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region) launched yet another anti-terror boat of Project 21980 (Hull No 01223), says the shipyard. The boat, which is the third in the series of four Grachonok-class boats under construction for RF Ministry of Defence was laid down on 15 September 2015.
The ceremony was attended by Vympel Director General Oleg Belkov, Acting Director of the regional government’s Department for Investments and Industry Galina Penyagina, head of Rybinsk municipality Denis Dobryakov and the boat crew.
Upon completion of the mooring trials the boat will leave for the Kronshtadt base to undergo the sea trials and the state tests. Then the boat will join RF Navy’s Northern Fleet.
Basic characteristics of Project 21980 special-purpose boat: Displacement: 138.69 t; Dimensions: length – 31.04 m, beam – 7.40 m, draft – 1.86 m: Full speed: 23 knots; Operating range: 200 miles; Endurance: 5 days; Crew: 6.
Armament: Igla SAM system, 14.5-mm pedestal machine gun mount, DP-64 and DP-65 grenade launchers.
On January 14, 2017, a naval flag-raising ceremony was held on two new 21980 project Grachonok anti-terror vessels at the Gadzhievo base.
