Freight volume loaded across the network of state-owned rail operator Russian Railways (RZD) between January and August 2017 rose to 833.5 million tonnes, which is a 3.3% gain on the corresponding period last year, RZD press release said.
The loaded volumes include: coal – 234.4 million tonnes (+9.5%); coke – 7.5 million tonnes (-2.7%); crude oil and petroleum products – 156.7 million tonnes; iron ore and manganese – 73.3 million tonnes (+0.2%); non-ferrous metals – 47.4 million tonnes (+0.3%); scrap metal – 9.9 million tonnes (+ 3.7%), chemical and mineral fertilizers – 38 million tonnes (+ 8.4%), cement – 18.5 million tonnes (-1.1%); timber cargo – 30 million tonnes (+ 3.6%); grain – 12.4 million tonnes (+10.9%); construction materials – 90.2 million tonnes (-7.8%); nonferrous metal ore and sulphur raw materials – 13.8 million tonnes (-3.2%), chemicals and soda – 17.3 million tonnes (+2%); industrial raw materials and molding materials – 24.4 million tonnes (+ 7.1%).
The eight-month volumes reached 1642.7 billion of tariff t/km (+ 6.9%), the volume, taking into account the mileage of unladen raicars – 2094,4 billion t/km (+ 6.5%).
In August loading across RZD rail network was up 0.4% y-o-y to 106.2 million tonnes.
Freight throughput in August 2017 increased 4.9% y-o-y to 208.2 billion tariff t/km, monthly freight throughput, taking into account the mileage of unladen raicars rose 4.9% to 265.1 billion t/km.
The freight turnover for August 2017 increased in comparison with the same period of the previous year by 4.9% and amounted to 208.2 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover, taking into account the run of the wagons in the empty state, increased by 4.9% during the same period and amounted to 265.1 billion ton-km.
