Transportation of loaded large capacity containers by the network of Russian Railways in January-August grew by 24.8%, year-on-year, to 1,690,700 TEUs, says Russian Railways.
In the reporting period, transit grew by 76.6% (to 214,500 TEUs), exports – by 16.9% (to 542,800 TEUs), import – by 53.8% (to 344,500 TEUs). Container transportation within Russia grew by 8.1% (to 588,900 TEUs).
The highest growth was shown in the following segments: chemicals and soda - 293,700 TEUs (+14.1%); paper – 189,900 TEUS (+4.4%); timber – 175,800 TEUS (+29.4%); consumer goods – 162,100 TEUS (+53.4%); metalware – 149,100 TEUS (+54.3%); machinery and engines – 113,300 TEUS (+50.9%); automobiles – 109,900 TEUS (+63.9%); non-ferrous metal – 73,600 TEUS (+7.3%); ferrous metal – 69,200 TEUS (+27.5%); construction cargo – 58,700 TEUS (+3.7%); chemicals and mineral fertilizers– 35,100 TEUS (+68%); ferrous metal scrap – 15,100 TEUS (+9%); agricultural equipment – 7,900 TEUS (up 2.9 times).
In 2016, transportation of loaded containers by the network of Russian Railways grew by 11%, year-on-year, to 2,134,700 TEUs.
