Port of Klaipeda development to be coordinated by Governmental Commission
The Commission on the Outer Klaipeda State Seaport Development Project Implementation has been approved in the Government. According to the Port of Klaipeda, the function of this Commission will be to analyse, coordinate and submit proposals related with the Outer Seaport Project to the Government.
The Ministers of Transport and Communications, of Environment, of Finance, Economy and Agriculture, Adviser to the Prime Minister, the director of National Land Service, Mayors of Klaipėda town and Klaipėda regions and the director general of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority are the members of this Commission. The Chairman of the Commission will be the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis.
Maximum Klaipeda Seaport development including the Outer Seaport is considered presently one of the largest economic projects in Lithuania. Klaipeda Seaport is the strategic object therefore coordination of different institutions at the Governmental level is necessary. This Commission will allow to develop the Project more sustainably and to create conditions to all parties concerned to communicate more efficiently.
Presently the preparation of the Port Master Plan is nearly completed. This Plan anticipates the development possibilities both in the Southern and in the Northern parts of the Seaport, including the Outer Port. Considering changes in global navigation and annually increasing vessel parameters the majority of the seaports worldwide have been planning the outer development of their seaports where the natural depths are quite sufficient as a rule. Klaipeda Seaport also anticipates such possibility. Possibility to reconstruct the breakwaters using the financing from EU from the period of 2014-2020 is also included in the Master Plan.
Solutions of the Master Plan have been prepared for the period of 15 years, and the concept – for the period of 25 years. This plan will allow to implement the Port development projects, ensuring the long – term competitiveness in international markets – will allow to reach maximum depth and formation of new territories.
