Busan Port Authority provided 958 safety boots and helmets to temporary port workers at the Busan Port Trade Union(BPTU) office on January 16th commemorating the 14th anniversary of founding.
Regular piers including Gamcheon Port handles a lot of dead weight cargoes and refrigerated storages; hence, pier workers are exposed to hazardous environment including falling accident in the cold storage. Despite the support from BPA, temporary workers could not receive protective gears due to insufficient financial resources.
In this regard, BPA came to an agreement on supporting safety harness to provide safe working environment and prevent accidents.
BPA President WOO Ye-jong said “A lot of workers are dedicating themselves to various duties in Busan Ports including container cargo processing Busan North Port and New Port, Gamcheon and Dadaepo Port. We were able to achieve our goal to handle 20 million TEUs last year thanks to their dedication. We will try our best to provide safe work environment for port workers in Busan.”
BPA has been providing safety gear since 2008 including safety vests, winter boots, safety gloves, and safety boots to stevedore and carrying out diverse efforts to prevent safety accidents involving port laborers.
