Volga Shipping Company (a company of UCL Holding) has been announced the winner of the competition held by the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot) and named the “Industry Leader” in the “Cargo Shipping Company” nomination.
The honourary award was given to Volga Shipping Company for its high performance. In 2017, the company’s vessels transported 6.5 million tonnes of cargo, which is a 24-pct increase as compared with the previous year. Cargo turnover grew by 16%, year-on-year, to 6.25 billion tonnes per kilometer. Transportation of export cargo totaled 4 million tonnes (+13%, year-on-year). Cargo transportation within the Russian Federation totaled 2.5 million tonnes (+46%, year-on-year).
Aleksandr Shishkin, Managing Director of Volga Shipping Company, commented: “Despite the challenging period for domestic shipping industry our specialists have passed a serious examination having taken the leading position in cargo transportation along the inland water ways. Amid the tough time of economic crisis the business success largely depends on involvement of the entire personnel of the company and the commitment of its employees to succeed”.
The official ceremony of awarding the winners of the “Industry Leader” competition will be held on 27 March 2018 in Moscow, at the extended meeting of the Board and the Public Council of Rosmorrechflot.
Volga Shipping OJSC is one of the biggest transport companies in Russia. It was founded in 1843. The company transports cargoes along rivers and lakes of the country. In 2017, Volga Shipping carried 6.5 million tonnes of cargo.
