Ulstein's Colibri motion compensated crane nearing completion
The first TTS COLIBRI™ 3D motion compensated crane is nearing completion at the TTS facilities in Poland. Once completed, the unit will be installed on the “Wind of Change” of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs of France. The COLIBRI™ technology comprises a compact, efficient 3D motion-compensated handling system, Ulstein said in its press release.
The Colibri system is developed by Ulstein as a lightweight, hydraulically actuated system with a minimum of moving parts, resulting in low power consumptions and fast response times. Unique is the Anti-Sway technology that we developed, allowing the crane not only to compensate for vessel induced motions, but also to take out wind induced motions.
Together with our partner TTS, the system can be delivered for both newbuild and retrofit projects. The first contract is to a newbuild offshore wind SOV project for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs.
The purpose of the COLIBRI™ technology is to increase vessel operability, enabling smaller, more cost-effective vessels to be used in harsher weather conditions.
Two aspects make the TTS COLIBRI™ unique compared to other solutions in the market:
The Ulstein-developed, award-winning, ColibriTM motion compensation system is a stand-alone add-on device to a standard offshore crane. It adds functionality, while the crane maintains its functionality as a full-fledged offshore crane including deepwater subsea capabilities.
The system is mounted on the tip of a standard crane as a new-build option, or retrofit.
Its ground-breaking anti-sway technology, mitigating wind induced motions acting directly on the load.
