Baltic icebreaking season 2017-2018 ends
Arctia says the Baltic icebreaking season 2017-2018 closed on Friday May 18th 2018, when icebreaker Kontio returned from the Bay of Bothnia to the icebreaker base in Katajanokka, Helsinki. The ice situation was harsh when compared to the two previous seasons, but average in comparison to the long-term mean.
The number of operational days for Arctia’s fleet was altogether 663 this season. Arctia’s vessels executed 2 027 assists and 222 towings during the season. All eight icebreakers assisted simultaneously for 30 days, from February 28th to March 29th.
Arctia thanks the Finnish Transport Agency, VTS Centers, assisted vessels, harbours and pilots, Swedish icebreakers and other stakeholders for the icebreaking season 2017-2018.
