TUK-120 enter serial production

Three transport-packing containers TUK-120, meant for transportation and storage of waste nuclear fuel from Russian nuclear ice-breakers, have been delivered in Murmansk.
These are the first serial containers, manufactured according to order of OJSC “Murmansk marine steam navigation”. They are delivered at FSUE “Atomflot”, where waste nuclear fuel surface vault is reconstructed by support of Great Britain government.
In September 2006 in newly-opened vault experimental operation of the first container from FSUE “PO “Sevmash” was performed. Manufactured after it serial products underwent the whole complex of qualification and acceptance tests. Specialists of “Crown Agents” (Great Britain) took part in acceptance. Under Contract, the enterprise shall manufacture 50 con-tainers. The work is planned to be completed at the beginning of 2008.
It is already the second project regarding TUK manufacturing. From 2002 till 2006 within Russian-American program “Joint threat decrease”, shipbuilders of Sevmash under the leadership of Deputy General Director M.A. Budnichenko produced 60 containers of TUK-108/1 type for nuclear submarines waste nuclear fuel. The project is honored with diploma of specialized exhibition “Products and technologies of dual purpose. Defense industrial complex di-versification“(2006).
