FBS restores operation of temporary border control points in the port of Saint Petersburg

Federal Border Service of the Russian Federation has issued a provisional permit for operation of four temporary border control points in the port of Saint Petersburg the activities of which were terminated on February 1, 2007. This decision of FBS initiated by Valentina Matvienko, Saint Petersburg Governor, was announced Tuesday to stevedoring companies in the course of their meeting with Yuri Molchanov, Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg, PortNews IAA learnt from Alexei Belov, deputy Director General of ECO Phoenix Holding, who participated in the meeting.

According to Belov, the permit has been issued under guarantees of Saint Petersburg Government provided that stevedoring companies keep to a schedule for fitting the points of border control. Such schedules have been approved by FBS. If stevedores fail to keep to schedules the inspection points are to be closed without further restoration of their activities.

PortNews IAA told earlier that termination affected activities of three stevedoring companies specializing in handling of imported refrigerated containers, general and bulk cargo and metal: Sea Fishing Port LLC (in 2006, the company’s cargo turnover totaled 1.138 million tons according to statistics provided by RF Transport Ministry), Terminal-Service LLC (750 thou tons a year) and Zavod Morgidrostroi CJSC (375 thou tons a year).
