Port of Helsinki volumes in January-November down 2.6% to 13.26 million tonnes
Cargo throughput at the Finland’s Port of Helsinki in January-November 2019 decreased by 2.6% compared with the corresponding period last year, to 13.26 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics showed.
The nine-month volume of bulk cargo dropped by 14.7% to 1.5 million tonnes, while container traffic increased by 3.5% to 489,650 TEUs.
Handling of equipment shipped through the port declined 0.8% to 557,400 units.
Passenger traffic climbed by 0.8% to 10.69 million people including 604,750 cruise passengers (+16.7%).
The number of ship calls climbed by 0.9% to 7,573 vessels.
The Port of Helsinki is one of the largest ports in Finland, the largest passenger port and the third largest in the Baltic Sea. The port accounts for 77% of Finland's passenger traffic. In 2018, the port handled 14.7 mln t of cargo (+3.3%, year-on-year).
