Port of HaminaKotka cargo turnover in 9M’2021 fell by 2.1%

Container throughput fell by 2.1% to 453,490 TEUs

Freight traffic at Finland based Port of HaminaKotka in January-September fell by 2.1 % to 10.89 million tonnes, the port authority statistics showed.

In the reporting period export cargo volume was down 3.6% to 8.27 million tonnes including 2 million tonnes of paper (+18.6%), 1.29 million tonnes of wood pulp (+0.2%), 1.8 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-33.5%) and 1.83 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+17.5%).

Handling of imports rose by 3.1% to 2.62 million tonnes including 840,656 tonnes of ran wood (+38.6%), 584,589 tonnes of general cargo (-3.2%), 708,599     tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-16.5%) and 253,782 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-7.7%).

The port’s transit traffic fell by 11.7% to 2.97 million tonnes, coastal traffic dropped by 5.8% to 77,721 tonnes.

Container throughput fell by 2.1% to 453,490 TEUs.

Vessel traffic was down 4.8% to 1,762 units.

The Port of Kotka is located some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2020, the port handled 14.84 million tonnes of cargo.
