Hanjin's new India company to be fully operational in April, 2007
SOUTH KOREA's Hanjin Shipping has established a new affiliated company in India, which is expected to be fully operational in April, 2007.
The company had earlier reported that the new subsidiary, named Hanjin Shipping India Private Limited, was to start business in October, 2006.
Hanjin explained in a statement that the opening of the new office is aimed at boosting the company's sales in India as well as meeting growing demand on the Asia-Europe trade. Hanjin Shipping has already set up a branch office in Mumbai plus two sales offices in Delhi and Chennai. Its existing offices in Calcutta, Cochin and Tuticorin remain under the control of its India agent, Confreight Shipping.
The shipping line said that it plans to build a strategic base in the rapidly developing nation, and will get the ball rolling by starting a new service from Singapore and India to North America (SINA) in November.
