Lianyungang to co-operate with Suqian, Huaian in port service
Lianyungang in the northern Jiangsu province has agreed to co-operate with its two neighbouring cities, Suqian and Huaian, in providing comprehensive regional port services, Xinhua reported.
Lianyungang signed co-operation agreements and according to the terms, the cities will encourage port operators in Lianyungang, like Lianyungang Port Group, to invest in container depots, container recycling stations and import and export cargo distribution centres in Suqian.
Suqian has experienced rapid development in exports in recent years and volumes are expected to reach 70,000 TEU this year. However, Suqian's export cargo volume via Lianyungang Port only accounts for 40 per cent of exports.
Suqian, which is 100 kilometres away from Lianyungang, will have more cargo transported via Lianyungang Port after the co-operation deal takes effect, the report said.
Lianyungang also signed the "Co-operation Agreement on Port Development and Sharing" with Huaian. According to the agreement, the two sides will set up expressways to connect Lianyungang and Huaian.
