PSA, Hutchison compete to build Bojonegara port
Singapore's PSA International Pte and Hutchison Port Holdings Ltd, the world's two biggest port operators, will compete to build and operate Indonesia's Bojonegara port.Maersk Line, Stevedoring Services of America Inc and France's CMA CGM SA have also registered to bid for the project, said Hendra Budhi, a spokesman at state-owned PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II, or Pelindo II, which is running the tender. Eight companies, including two Indonesian firms partnering with French and Portuguese investors, are competing, Mr Budhi said yesterday.Pelindo II expects the new project will ease congestion at Jakarta's Tanjung Priok port, which handles about half the country's trade. Located on the western tip of Java island, Bojonegara port will have twice the container capacity of the one in Tanjung Priok, now Indonesia's biggest, Mr Budhi said. The winning bid is expected to be announced next month, he said, without giving details.
Bojonegara port will consist of five terminals to handle liquid and dry bulk cargo, containers, roll-on roll-off cargo vessels, and one multipurpose terminal, Mr Budhi said. The container terminal will have an annual handling capacity of about 7.4 million standard 20-foot containers, he said.
