Flurry of orders and deliveries for newbuilds
CMA CGM has received the CMA CGM Aristote, the third in a series of six ships of 1,691-TEU, reports AFX Alphaliner News.
The newbuild is intended to replace the 1,100-TEU chartered ship in the CMA CGM and Marfret (Shipping Company) fleet that is used on the Europe-Guyana-Amazon service.
Four of the ships on the service will be provided by CMA CGM and two by Marfret, also of France.
The CMA CGM Aristote will be deployed on the Far East-Europe westbound loop on the recently launched North Africa Express (NAFEX) service temporarily, before joining the Europe-Guyana-Amazon service.
In other news, the Arkas Group in Istanbul has taken delivery of the 1,604-TEU Mario A, built by the Peene Werft (Hegemann Group), after receiving an earlier vessel in the series in May.
The newbuild has been chartered by Grimaldi and will be used by its transatlantic subsidiary ACL and will join the ACL Conro service.
German ship owner Heinrich Juengerhans has taken delivery as well of the 974-TEU Spica J, which has joined C2C Lines for temporary deployment on the Zeebrugge-Ireland route, replacing the 750-TEU Javi.
In another development, DSME (Daewoo) has placed an order for 13 containerships worth US$1.8 billion from European owners. The order includes nine 12,500-TEU vessels and four 5,000-TEU vessels.
