Yangshan sees 15 million TEU annual capacity by 2010
During the time left in the 11th Five Year Plan (2006 - 2010), 21 berths will be built at Shanghai's Yangshan terminal, raising its capacity to 15 million TEU, representing nearly 70 per cent of Shanghai's throughput last year, Xinhua reported.
In the time left, Yangshan will complete the container terminal's phase 2, 3 and 4 expansion, which includes three berths of 100,000-ton capacity, eight of 70,000 tons, two of 35,000 tons, and eight of 10,000 tons for feeders.
The expanded area before 2010 will also be included in the Yangshan bonded port area. The preferential policies the Chinese government granted to bonded ports will be applicable.
According to the development plan of the Shanghai government, by the end of 2010, port of Shanghai's annual container volume will exceed 24 million, while cargo throughput will surpass 600 million tons.
