Varna (Bulgaria) plans to build new port terminal
The announcements of promising upcoming commercial port projects have given a boost to the industry of maritime shipping in Bulgaria.
The most significant plan being formulated has to be the construction of a new port terminal in Varna to handle containers, said Borislav Gutsanov, chairperson of the city municipal council. According to Gutsanov construction will commence later this year.
News reports say that environmental impact studies are due to be finalised within the next few days and September is the estimated month when the project's financial discussions will begin.
The construction of Varna port container terminal, estimated to cost $137 million, will be the first of its kind in Bulgaria.
Elsewhere, Port Bourgas Dockyards' executive director Veselin Statev has also announced plans for the construction of a new commercial port in Bourgas.
Statev said that almost 16,500 square metres of water area will be drained and covered for port construction while completion will see three berths with multi-purpose handling facilities. The $16 million Bourgas project has been scheduled to be completed in three years, said news reports.
