In January-July, 2007, Ukraine’s railway transported 13 million tonnes of oil cargo (+18%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. The highest growth was in transit sector (+50%, year-on-year). Transit accounted for over 80% of Ukrzaliznitsa’s total volume, while in 2006 it was only 78%. Transportation of crude oil amounted to 1 million tonnes. Internal transportation of this type of cargo decreased while transit started to grow. Transshipment of railway cargo via Ukraine’s ports grew by 36% to 9.6 million tonnes (mostly crude oil while oil products demonstrated higher growth rates).
