Swedish shipowner Transatlantic launches a major newbuilding programme

Swedish shipowner Transatlantic is launching a major newbuilding programme. Negotiations with shipbuilders are underway for a five vessel order for the company’s Atlantic services. – We expect to finalise an order this autumn, says Håkan Larsson, CEO of Transatlantic to SSG. The company will invest around SEK one billion (EUR 108 million) in three vessels. Two vessels will be financed by external investors and chartered by Transatlantic. The new vessels are expected to contribute to the result by at least SEK 40-50 million per year.
TransViking, the 50/50-owned joint venture with Viking Supply Ships, has in practise declared options for a further two anchor handling ships at Spanish Astilleros Zamakon. There is only some red tape remaining, but everything will be in place by next week, says Håkan Larsson. When the options are declared, the firm order consists of four vessels worth around SEK two billion (EUR 216 million) and with the two first to be delivered in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
