European Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot said before European Parliament that after providing funding to Macedonia for railway corridor 10, the renovation of corridor eight would be a priority, Railway Market-CEE Review reports.
The EU estimated that the railway renovation would cost 500 million euro. The construction of the railway section had begun in the 1990s but in 2001 the project had been halted.
The route of corridor eight passes through Skopje-Gyueshevo-Sofia-Bourgas and is part of the corridor connecting Adriatic Sea to Black Sea.
