Captain of Cambodian trawler receives suspended sentence
The captain of a Cambodian trawler caught illegally transporting crabs in Russian waters received a suspended sentence of 18 months, a senior aide to the local prosecutor said Wednesday according to RIA Novosti.
In May 2007, a vessel under the command of Igor Zozulya, a resident of the southwest Siberian city of Barnaul, illegally shipped and transported 5,700 red king crabs in Russia's exclusive economic zone, inflicting damage estimated at more than two million rubles ($80,000).
The red king crab's population is at risk in Russian Far East. The crab's meat is a delicacy, considered by many to be tastier than lobster.
