Ford Vsevolozhsk motor works resumes production after strike

Workers of the Ford Vsevolozhsk motor works went to work on the morning shift at 08.45 Moscow time on Wednesday, a source at the motor works told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

Still, the motor works will operate in one shift instead of three shifts that is caused by assembly technology violations after a week-long idle production during the action of protest.

“We called to all our supporters, they expressed willingness to begin working,” Ford Motor Company chief press officer Yekaterina Kulinenko told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. According to her, more than 80 percent of workers took side with the motor works directorate. “More than 1,500 people signed up for the refusal from the strike,” she emphasized.

Ford Vsevolozhsk workers went on an indefinite strike on November 20. The trade union demands a 40% salary rise and to conclude a new labour contract. For the period of idleness more than 2,000 cars totaling more than 26 million dollars were not produced.

The Russian motor works of the Ford Motor Company situated in Vsevolozhsk, the Leningrad region, produces up to 75,000 Ford Focus cars a year. As many as 2.2 thousand people work at the motor works. The average salary of workers is about 21,000 roubles.
