Murchison, Mitsubishi to build Australia ore port
Murchison Metals Ltd and Japan's Mitsubishi Corp have been selected to develop a new port in western Australia aimed at opening up a new iron ore mining province, according to a government statement on Tuesday.
The Murchison and Mitsubishi partnership, called Oakajee Port & Rail, beat out a competing proposal by Yilgarn Infrastructure, owned by the Chinese government.
The decision, announced by Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter, ends more than two decades of debate over the viability of building the port at Oakajee, 200 kilometres (125 miles) north of Perth.
