New bridges over the Danube

The reunion between the Romanian and the Bulgarian Minister of Transport which took place on July 28th 2008 in Ruse included many discussion among which the opportunity to build new bridges over the Danube, RZD-Partner reports.
Giving the context, the Bulgarians adopted the initiatives proposed by the Romanian but expressed the demand that the accomplishment of the projects would take place inside public private partnerships (PPP). The Bulgarian officials added that no project involving new connecting tracks over the Danube could benefit from funds coming from the Bulgarian state budget until 2015. Ludovic Orban and his Bulgarian homologue, Petar Mutafchiev have approved the activities of the local authorities in Bechet and Rahova who will build a road bridge between the two localities. However, the Bulgarians wanted to stress the fact that the priority remains the accomplishment of a complex bridge, for road and railway transport, on Calarasi-Silistra route. In the railway field, the two parts established bilateral reunions of the experts in the two countries for the exchange of opinions regarding interest aspects like ERTMS implementation, the interoperability, railway safety, etc.
Bulgaria has expressed his gratitude to Romania for the efforts made for the acceleration of the construction process of Calafat-Vidin bridge, ensuring that the works will be initiated on September 1st 2008, as established before. It was established that the organization of the Romanian-Bulgarian Commission Reunion for approving the principles which will constitute the fundament of the structure ensuring the operation, management and maintenance of the new bridge will take place on 17-18 September 2008., Railway Market-CEE Review reports.
