Port of Tallinn decreases cargo throughput by 12,1% in July 2008

In July 2008 the cargo flows through the Port of Tallinn fell by 12.1% – i.e. by 315.1 tonnes. But for the first time in the history of the Port of Tallinn, the port provided services to more than one million passengers per month.
The bulk cargo volumes decreased the most in the year-on-year comparison, volume of liquid bulk and goods in break bulk decreased less while the trade in containers increased by 2.2%, writes Äripäev.ee.
In comparison to the month of July last year, imports through the Port of Tallinn improved by 5.9%, transit import increased by nearly 70%.
While exports volumes grew by 29.5% in the year-on-year comparison, transit exports fell by 24%.
In July 2008, the ports of the Port of Tallinn were used by a total of 1,004,056 passengers, of whom 1,000,901 were serviced in Tallinn, 2,275 in Paldiski, 632 in Saaremaa and 257 in the Port of Muuga.
Most of the passengers – 80% of the total number – were those on the Tallinn-Helsinki route. More than 10% were cruise tourists visiting Tallinn and Saaremaa – a total of 102,955.
In comparison to the month of July last year, the Port of Tallinn provided services to nearly 15% more passengers in the month in question this year.
