Throughput of Klaipeda port up 16.2% to 18.24 mln t in Jan-July 08

In January-July, 2008, the port of Klaipeda handled 18.24 million tonnes of cargo (+16.2%, year-on-year), the company reports. In the reported period, transshipment of oil products grew by 25,7%., dry loose and bulk cargo – 5.92 million tonnes (+29.5%, year-on-year). Transshipment of containers grew by 20.2%, year-on-year, ro-ro cargo – down by 5.5%.
In January-July 2008, Butinge terminal handled 5.16 million tonnes of crude oil (+76.3%, year-on-year).  Klaipeda port (Lithuania) is the northernmost ice – free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.
19 big stevedoring companies, ship - repair and ship – building yards operate within the port and all marine business and cargo handling services are being rendered. The annual port cargo handling capacity is up to 40 million tons. In 2007-2013 it is planned to invest some EUR 600 million into the port development.
