AADA levies peak season surcharge in China-Australia trade

The Asia Australia Discussion Agreement (AADA) has announced it will implement a peak season surcharge from September 1 as a necessary step to assist carriers to recover extra cost incurred because of an "upsurge of cargo movement".
From September 1, outbound shipments from China and Hong Kong to Australia ports will be levied a surcharge of US$250 per TEU and $500 per FEU top of normal ocean freight rates.
A quasi-shipping conference, the AADA considers itself a "voluntary discussion forum of 13 ocean carriers servicing the trade from North and East Asia to destinations in Australia.
Its members include ANL Singapore Pte Ltd (ANL), China Shipping Container Line (HK), Cosco Container line, Hamburg Sud (HSDG), Hanjin Shipping, Hyundai Merchant Marine, "K" Line, Maersk Line, MSC, MOL, NYK, OOCL and Gold Star Line (HK)(GSL).
