Throughput of Archangelsk port up 3.4% to 3.03 mln t in Jan-July 08

In January-July, 2008, the port of Archangelsk handled 3.028.4 million tonnes of cargo (+3.4%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Archangelsk Port Administration. In the reported period, the port’s stevedoring companies accepted 295,200 tonnes of cargo (+16.5%, year-on-year) including 175,300 tonnes of import cargo (+7.3%), 119,900  tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-21.8%). Import of containerized cargo amounted to 25,97 tonnes (- 13.8 % year-on-year), machines and equipment 7,05 tonnes (up 5.7 times).
Transshipment of incoming coastal trade containers fell by 28.0% to 1900 tonnes, ferrous metal – 1857 tonnes (-3%). Transshipment of other general cargo totaled 115,900 tonnes (+48.5).
In January-July 2008, the port of Archangelsk shipped 2.733.2   million tonnes of cargo (+24.5%) including 1.224.1 million tonnes of export cargo (+45.1%, year-on-year) and 1.509.1 million tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-17.6%). Export of containerized cargo fell 48.4%, year-on-year, to 20,400 tonnes, timber – by 4.1% to 311,76 tonnes, cellulose – grew by 35.9% to 64,770 tonnes, paper and cardboard - - grew by 26.6% to 14,090 tonnes.
Dispatched coastal trade crude and oil products amounted to 1.284.9 million tonnes (-14.1%), other general cargo - 143,900 tonnes (-29.3%), containerized cargo - 18,300 tonnes (-67.5%).
Seaport of Archangelsk accepts vessels with a draft of up to 9.2 meters, length of up to 175-200 meters, breadth of up to 30 meters. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17,548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft-Archangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. Archangelsk port is crossed by cargo transit lines from Europe to the states of the Far, Middle and Near East.
