Finland gives the green light to Nord Stream pipeline

Finland issued today, the last of three required permits for the laying of the Nord Stream gas pipeline across the Baltic Sea. This opens the green light for the project construction, PRIME-TASS reports.

The Southern Finland Administration’s decision is based on the Finland’s Water Code requirements and on the last year’s expertise. The document permits the construction and operation of two 375-km-length parallel pipelines, crossing the Finnish economic zone in the Baltic Sea. The document regulates compensations issue.

The document said that Nord Stream company should "take all possible measures to prevent and minimize damages" during construction and operation of the pipeline. The damages issue includes regional ecology, energy, telecommunications, etc.

Earlier reports said Finland had turned over to Nord Stream two required permissions for the project, Usim’s Environmental Center the Finland Government’s 50-year lease of the country’s economic zone.
