The average LPG price on the international market was RMB 7,600 per ton, while the domestic price is only RMB 6,800 per ton.
The imported LPG during the period was valued at RMB 1.48 billion, up 5.1% year-on-year, due to the price hike on the international market.
Major import sources in the first half include Australia, which contributed 1.288 million tons, and 27.8% of the total. 781,000 tons were from United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The administration said the southern province of Guangdong claimed 80% of the import in the first half.
Market observers said the price gap between the international and domestic markets would remain for a certain period of time, as the government is striving to control the LPG price to ensure the interests of domestic consumers.
China is currently the third largest LPG consumer in the world.
