Norilsk Nickel to build a 1.1-b-ruble terminal in Murmansk

Norilsk Nickel is planning to build a terminal in Murmansk, worth 1.1 billion rubles, the Company statement said. The project might lead to the transport independence of the company. The project will be implemented by the Murmansk transport subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel.

Each year about 580.000 tons of cargoes pass through the port of Murmansk of the Company as well as other companies that supply Norilsk industrial region.

The total volume of transshipment of goods through its own terminal in Murmansk will be some 755.000 tons.

Overall project cost is projected to be $1.1 billion rubles. The project implementation term - 22 months.

The terminal design has already passed the state examination. Murmansk transport branch has received a building permit and completed some of with the preparatory work. Today, the first gantry crane transferred from Dudinka, began start-up tests at the terminal.

The Company authorities believe the transshipment terminal will establish its own multi-modal transportation hub, providing all kinds of shipments (rail, trucking, sea). The terminal will reduce costs and give additional revenues through innovative high-technologies of exports and imports.
