Russian Govt’s to open Port Olga for foreign ships

A draft of the Russian government directive has been prepared to allow foreign-flagged ships to enter the port of Olga (Primorskiy Kray), PortNews IAA reports citing the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

Port Olga is a subsidiary of the Vladivostok Port Authority. The year-round free port is not linked anyhow with the railroad network of Russia. So, the cargoes are transported to the port by trucks. Every year the port handles some 200.000 tons of cargoes, largely timber and pulpchips sent for export. Berthing front of the port consists of 3 cargo berths of a total length of 286 m and tank farm pier. Two 187.4-m-length berths are in the federal property. One 98.6-m berth is owned by OlgaLes (Olga Forest). The port assets include 4 gantry cranes of lifting capacity of 10 tons and 3 forklifts to handle 10 and 12 tons. Besides, there are an outdoor warehouse (3000 sqm) for open storage of round timber and indoor warehouse (1200 sqm) and other facilities.
