Indian state of Kerala to upgrade port facilities

The Kerala Maritime Development Corporation has been entrusted with the task of overseeing the further development of ports in the state, The Hindu reported.
The corporation has been restructured along the lines of maritime corporations in other Indian states.
The Vizhinjam Container Transhipment Terminal project has been named a flagship venture, and the state government has started efforts to boost further industrial development in the region.
The government has stated it plans to develop the Azheekal, Beypore, Ponnani, Alappuzha and Kollam ports.
They are currently processing the global tenders for the development of the latter port, with the technical capabilities of the four bidders being examined.
