At its monthly meeting Thursday afternoon, the board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey authorized a new lease with FAPS, an auto processor, for approximately 104 acres at Port Newark through Dec. 31, 2019.
The renewal of the lease will enable FAPS to continue operating its vehicle processing facility and to use and operate a 15-acre rail terminal adjacent to the facility.
The board also authorized agreements with public and private entities to provide for the demolition and replacement of two navigation towers in the Port Jersey Channel.
The towers must be relocated to accommodate navigational requirements in the channel as part of the 50-foot harbor deepening project under way in the channel.
The new towers are also required to allow for implementation of protective measures for a Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners outfall tunnel, which is needed to accommodate wharf and berth improvements at the Port Jersey Port Authority Marine Terminal.
