Fist passenger ferry cruise along the NSR

The ferry Georg Ots carrying passengers and cars called today, October 4, at the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky en route from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok along the Northern Sea Route. The ferry owned by Rosmorport became the first passenger vessel to sail through the northern shipping lane, the of the Kamchatka region’s transport department said.

The ferry set sail from St. Petersburg port on August 28. The ship will be refilled at Petropavlovsk with fuel, water and sea stores.

The Kamchatka regional authorities said the development of navigation along the Northern Sea Route could make the Russian port an international hub since thanks to its enormous potential.

The ferry is bound for Vladivostok to service the local ferry lines. In 2012 she will be providing services for the summit of the Asia-Pacific Cooperation (APEC).

The 493-project Ro-Ro passenger vessel was built in 1980 at the Szczecin shipyard (Poland). The ship's length - 134 meters, breadth - 21.02 m, DP - 12,6 m, draft - 5,68 m, main engine power rated 13,230 kW, maximum speed - 15.3 knots.
