According to the official, Russia plans to build new handling facilities, primarily in the North and the Far East Russia’s regions. Over 80% of Russian foreign trade goods, Mr. Klyavin says, are now being transshipped via the Russian ports. At the same time, the competition of the country’s ports is gradually increasing with their foreign rivals. As Mr. Klyavin said, the strengthening of cooperation between maritime and other transport modes is urgently needed, as well as improvement of control procedures at marine checkpoints.
The Department chief reported that an integrated system for ensuring the safety of navigation named ‘Sea’ is being prepared. The system will bring together all the databases on maritime transport and inland waterways.
Besides, Alex Klyavin said, a bill being prepared to support shipping and shipbuilding industry will play an important role in enhancing the competitiveness of Russian water transport. The law will create favorable conditions for maintenance of Russian-flagged ships and will provide an acceptable level of social guarantees for the crew members. Also, he said, the law will create better conditions for the construction of vessels at Russian shipyards. The document has been submitted to the government for endorsement, added the official.
