Cargo turnover of Finland ports is up 10.1% to 55.96m tons in Jan-Aug., 2010

Freight flows through the ports of Finland in January-August 2010 increased by 10,1% compared with the same period in 2009, to 55,962,000 tons, the Association of Finnish ports statistics said.

Eight-month volume of inbound goods at the country’s ports rose to 30,167,150 tons (+7.7% from the last year’s figure), outbound goods - to 25,795,533 tons (+13%).

During the reporting period the port of Sköldvik handled the largest cargo volume - 9,814.92 tons, but 12.5% down from January-August 2009.

Throughput of the port of Kotka, according to the AFP, in January-August shrank by 22.8% (vs Jan-Aug, 2009) to 6 million tons, freight flows via the port of Helsinki was up 7.9% to 6m tons. Cargo turnover at the port of Hamina increased by 37.8%, to 2,446,536 tons. Port of Oulu posted a 12.3-percent growth in freight turnover, to 1,872,617 tons.

Last year, Finland seaports reported a 17.9-percent decline in freight traffic year-over-year, to 78,701,163 tons.
