Freight traffic via Port Kavkaz rises 21.8% to 7.18m tons in Jan-Sept, 2010

Nine-month cargo turnover of port of Kavkaz increased by 21.86% compared with the same period last year, to 7.18 million tons, PortNews reports citing the Port Authority.
In January-September, the port handled 2,488 million tons of outbound goods. Exports rose 35.84%, (3,96 tons), imports jumped by 50.25% (733,59 t). The port handled 2,169 ships, 15.74% more than a year earlier.

Port of Kavkaz is situated between the Azov and the Russian Black Sea coast. The 4.5-m-deep harborage allows handling river boats and seagoing ships (offshore). The port’s loading berths facilities are intended for handling bulked cargoes (mineral fertilizers, concentrates of various ores, grain) as well as general, timber, and containerized commodities. In 2009 cargo turnover at the port of Kavkaz rose 15.5% year-over-year, to 8.1 million tons.
