Freight traffic on Russia's inland waterways to rise 3-4%, to some 100m tons this year, Transport Ministry says

Volumes of freight traffic on inland waterways of Russia is projected to grow for the year 2010 by 3-4% compared with last year, to more than 100 million tons, the PortNews correspondent reported citing Alexei Klyavin, the Director of Department of state policy in maritime and river transport of Russian Transport Ministry who was speaking today at the briefing in St. Petersburg.

According to the Ministry official forecast, liquid cargoes traffic may increase more than 20% as well as the forest cargo, and over 3% - metals volume. According to Alexei Klyavin, this year navigation was difficult due to an abnormally hot summer, but final figures will depend largely on the term of this year’s navigation.
