The company source said that an oil and gas wharf, including LNG receiving terminal, as well as 500,000-cubic meter LNG storage tanks would be built in the city, but the project is still in the preliminary preparation.
No timetable is available for the construction of such LNG terminal by now, the source said.
If it is true, the terminal will be Sinopec's sixth such project in China and the first of this kind that Sinopec builds in Guangdong province.
Guangdong province has planned to build five LNG terminals in Dapeng Island, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Jieyang and Zhanjiang.
Sinopec runs its flagship refinery Maoming refinery with a total crude oil processing capacity of 13 million metric tons per year. The company will further increase the refinery's annual capacity to 18 million metric tons during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015).
