Alexei Klyavin: New border crossing scheme at Russ. ports to become effective within a month

New general scheme of crossing the state border of Russia at the seaports crossing points is expected to be approved during the month, Alexei Klyavin, the Director of Department of state policy in maritime and river transport of Russian Transport Ministry said in an interview with journalists.
The draft of amendments to General scheme was published by Russian Transport Ministry on Oct. 5, 2010. So, the corresponding order may be signed by Transport Minister Igor Levitin in November this year. The new scheme will allow for handling operations simultaneously with the ship inspection. That could significantly reduce the vessels stay time at seaports.

The Ministry plans further changes in the law to cancel commission inspection at the ports. As Alex Klyavin notes, appropriate amendments to the Law on Russian State Border has already been prepared by Transport Ministry.

"We have agreed with regulatory agencies our principled position on the lifting of the commission inspection of ships", Alexei Klyavin said.
