Transport Minister Igor Levitin to run for Moscow mayor post

The "United Russia" party on Saturday, October 9, nominated four candidates for Moscow mayor office for approval by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The list of candidates includes Igor Levitin, Sergei Sobyanin, Valery Shantsev and Lyudmila Shvetsova, the "United Russia" statement said.

"We offer to the Moscow mayor post Igor Levitin - Minister of Transport, Sergei Sobyanin - Vice Prime Minister and the head of Russ. Govt. administration, Valery Shantsev - Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region and Lyudmila Shvetsow - First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Moscow", said the speaker of the State Duma, the head of the supreme council of "United Russia" Boris Gryzlov at his meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev.

Dmitry Medvedev said that those were all famous people "Indeed, considering those proposals, which the party has, I primarily focused on those nominations, I have had contact with them. I believe that each of these candidates as a whole is able to lead such a major city, as our capital Moscow", the Kremlin press service quoted Dmitry Medvedev as saying.

The appointment of the mayor of Moscow would be taken "in due course."

The former mayor of the Russia’s capital Yuri Luzhkov, was dismissed by Russian President on September 28.
