Yantar Shipyard bags a three warships contract, to be delivered to the Black Sea Navy by 2015

Baltic Shipyard Yantar (Yantar Shipyard, Kaliningrad region) will build the first three frigates of project 11356 for the Russia’s Black Sea Navy until the end of 2014. Last week the company won the bidding for shipbuilding contract, which is to be signed within 20 days by the Russian Defense Ministry and the shipbuilder, RIA Novosti reports.

The lead ship is scheduled to be completed in 2 years and 10 months. Currently, Yantar has also been implementing a contract worth over $1bn for construction of three frigates ordered by the Indian Navy.

The Project 1135 vessels’ full capacity is 3.850 tons, maximum speed - 32 knots, cruising range - 30 days, the crew – 190, including 22 officers. The warships are armed with artillery gun A-190E (Caliber - 100 mm), a medium-range air defense missile system ‘Shtil-1’, anti-aircraft missile and artillery system ‘Kashtan’, eight portable anti-aircraft missile systems ‘Igla’, two twin-tube torpedo launchers DTA -53-11356, RBU-6000 bombs launcher. The warships carry on board Ka-28 or Ka-31 helicopters.
