Estonia's railroad freight volume up 15% in Jan-Sept, to 21.4m tons

In nine recent months the volume of rail traffic in Estonia rose 15.1% from last year's figure, to 21.4 million tons, BBN reports citing aripaev.ee

In January-September this year, liquid mineral fuels amounted to 14.8 million tons, up 12.5% from the same period a year earlier, oil shale volume surged 85%, to 2.4 million tons, fertilizer volume jumped 75%, to 1.6 million tons.
Rail transit shipments amounted to 17.4 million tons or 81% of the total voluem, a nearly 13-percent gain. Domestic rail freight volume increased 41% in a year to 2.8 million tons.

In the reporting period container volume rose by amost 25%, to 15,277 TEUs. About half of the containers handled by the country's railroad were shipped to Russia.

The market is divided between two rail freight operators: E.R.S. accounted for 57% of the volume and the share of EVR Cargo was 43%.
