The ocean-going Grand Mercury ship carrying 3,051Hyundai cars on board docked at the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region), PortNews reports citing JSC Ust-Luga Company (customer-developer of the port). The Ro-Ro cargo is currently being offloaded from the ship, the report said.
An earlier report said Ust-Luga port had launched the first phase multi-purpose terminal Yug-2, for handling Ro-Ro cargo, including new imported cars, containers and general cargo (large, non-standard weights).
To date, the Yug-2 terminal handles autos of Hyundai and Kia car makers, Malmo-Hanko-Ust-Luga service transports Toyota cars. Besides, the complex has offloaded the first shipment of Subaru cars.
In 2009, the Yug-2 terminal transshipped and stored 16 thousand 775 cars. Since January the Yug-2 has seen about 40,000 equipment units. This year’s volume of the cargo handled at the Ro-Ro terminal is expected to reach 60,000 cars.
