The first phase of Zhuhai Jinwan LNG terminal, approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in March, will be able to take in 3.5 million tonnes of LNG per year when it is put into operation in 2013, CNOOC said in a statement. The schedule is one year later than planned.
Zhuhai Jinwan would be able to handle 7 million tonnes of LNG per year when its second phase is also completed, CNOOC said. It did not disclose the investment involved.
The terminal, first proposed in 2005, is jointly owned by CNOOC and a number of local energy companies.
Chinese companies have proposed a number of LNG receiving terminals in the past decade, but the National Development and Reform Commission normally grants final approval after resources are secured.
